About the Team

This project and team originated from the spring 2010 D-Lab Design class at MIT, taught by international development guru Amy Smith.  The class focuses on designing appropriate technologies for developing countries, and works with community partners around the world.

The Spiral Stove is backed by a 6-person team of pyromaniacs: 4 MIT Mechanical Engineering undergraduate juniors--Liane Fang, Caroline Hane-Weijman, Alyssa Roque, and Danielle Whited--and their mentors from the class, Jic Davis and Ben Linder.  What began as a class project has grown into a thrilling new adventure in design and international development.  Moving forward, the team goal is to turn this spiral stove into a sustainable and scaleable product that improves the quality of life of people in developing countries.
